Wedge-Tailed Eagle
Other Name: Eaglehawk
Special Feature: This is australias largest bird of prey
length: female about 1000 mm, male about 900 mm
Wingspan: 2000-2500 mm
Distribution: found throughout Australia.
Prey: Rabbits, Kangaroo, Carcus (Carrion), small mammals (Wallabies), Birds and Reptiles
Nest: a very large platform of sticks, placed in a main fork of a tree, also occasionally on a rock-lege, the ground or low bush.
Nest Diameter: 700,, to 2,5 metres
Usually over 1 Meter deep.
Tree nests range from 1.6 to 30 Meters above ground. A pair of Wedge-Tails usually have one or two alternative nests in their territory and these may be used on an irregular basis.
Eggs: 1-3, 73x58 mm
Egg laying from may to October
Incubation: about 45 days, fledging: 70-75 days
